yes! They used this for human bites and dog bites as well. Although I did not read any incidents of either.

They did use cottonwood trees in the winter quarters although they used cottonwood trees in the summer quarters also. Lewis andClark used cottonwood trees for dug-out canoes for traveling along on the rivers and streams.
